All horses require 1–2% of their body weight in dietary fiber each day to sustain optimal digestive health. For example, a 500 kg horse should receive at least 5 kg of fiber daily. Horses kept stabled full-time should have continuous access—preferably to two different types—of high-quality forage, along with fresh, clean water. Performance horses may consume 10–15 gallons of water daily to maintain proper hydration levels.
